Cussed or more service?

Have you ever spent 20 minutes trying to get through to a "Customer Service" department or "help line" followed by 5 minutes "taking you through security" only to be then told that your query cannot be dealt with because there's an "r" in the month?

Then, as you sigh with exhaustion and weary defeat they brightly say "Is there anything else I can help you with?".

I've had isses with gas, electricity and telephone since moving here (haven't bothered to blog about it, as they're such long sagas).

I've found, rather than ring, writing a letter addressed to The Manager, Customer Services means that they ring me - and usually it's someone senior enough to make decisions. Not only have I achieved my objective each time, I've also been given a discount (and an abject apology).

Sharon was telling me earlier that she lost her credit card last weekend so phoned the company up to report it. She does all her accounts online and gets e-statements which, bizarrely, don't carry the account number. The first thing the automated line asks for is the account number. Eh?

Early on in the conversation I usually have to say 'Please don't call me madam'.
Then they ask you those 'security questions' which always have me baffled.
After many tears and tantrums the conversation is usually terminated with a polite 'Sorry we can't help you today madam'.

Dave: Your illuminated manuscript probably caught their attention.

Richard: It's the banks trying to stop you taking any money out. They've got pensions to pay for you know!

Kaz: There's a wonderful take on bank passwords in Down the LineSir B: That's a BSA you're riding then?

Sarah: Our Lil talks more sense than most Customer Service people!
