Short and Sweet

Apparently the Bluebells are predicted to be spectacular this year because of the mild, dry start to the year, although the lack of rain will make them "short and sweet". They will peak in the South around Easter although I always think of them as a Maytime show.

In the meatime, we seem to be enjoying a spectacular hedgrow blossoming this year, presumably for the same reasons. I don't know if this is Hawthorne or some other sort of Thorn. Tracy? Prickly Blackthorn? GE Thorn?

Looks like Blackthorn, to me. The hedges are frothy with it around here.

Are you hoping to be invited to Harry's stag do?

Or have you just joined the Norfolk branch of the Nazi Party?

Martin: ah yes. Prickly blackthorn is showing off her Spring Wardrobe this year.

Dave: I'm too old for the Young Farmers.

Nice legs, dear boy.

Isn't hawthorne magic or something? Will await bluebell pictures.

Z: They're whiter than the blossom!

Rosie: Sadly we don't get much Bluebell action in this part of the World - to dry and dusty I suppose.

Yup Blackthorn. Spring is 2 weeks earlier than last year. Which is a bit of a bugger for those who have to scrape a living while trees are dormant ! On the bright side my holidays start NOW !

Blacktorn Rog, make sure you go back in november/december to collect the sloes!

Not so sure about the stringy things sticking out of the bottom of your shorts though!!!

Sarah: Prickly bugger, that Blackthorn. Are you slipping off to Libya?

Jon: Sloe Gin anyone? It makes you legless apparently.

I think of them as white bushes, they remain nameless.

The way to 'know your thorns' (I'm reliably inthorned) is that blackthorn blossoms before its leaves come and hawthorn after its leaves.

Bluebell frenzy huh? I'm overrun with them at the best of times. Grrr.

Scarlet: "Anonymous" sounds like a latin name for it.

Bluebell Biro: That's a useful tip. How do I remember which is which?
