Not really a down-side if you enjoy it though. And the upside is that if you get up one morning and see the sun shining in the garden heralded by a new poppy...
...you can jump in the van and take everyone up to Watership Down. Just like Robert Frost's Lone Striker, although he didn't have a Berlingo.
I took a few pictures on the way and it struck me how the same place can look completely different across time. The atmosphere, the mood, the feelings conjured up. Here is a picture taken there in November 2005 when I was still a wage slave employee and proctologist* :
And here is the same view but with a slightly different angle taken this morning:
I still prefer the first picture but much prefer the viewpoint of today. As the great Ansell Adams once said, "A good photograph is knowing where to stand". That probably applies to life as well if you are lucky enough to be able to take that vital decision.

I don't mind dealing with arses if I can tell them what to do. It's having them in charge that's the problem.

Ticking along in early retirement is fine. Lots of coat-cutting, according to available cloth, but freedom to do pretty much as I please. People thought I was nuts. They're still on the hamster's wheel.

Martin: I can't see any end to the working thing but may cut down to 6 days a week when the pension kicks in in a few years time.
I read a quote on the internet the other day, although unfortunately I have forgotten the author's name. What she said was:
"Is your employer paying you for your skills, or your time? The first is empowering, the second is enslaving".
I'm feeling a bit enslaved at the moment and I do envy the Rogs of this world who have escaped the rat race.

If it helps, I've been working since 5.30am this morning with an early car-boot start. But as Mrs Rine says, it's a bit like working on the oil rigs - 4 weeks on and 1 week off.
