Past historic. Future tense.

In a recent English exam, a question sought the students' knowledge of the past historic tense by asking whether "had" or "had had" was appropriate in a particular sentence.

Jones, where Smith had had "had", had had "had had". "Had Had" had had the examiner's approval.

(BTW, I almost typed an anagram of 'hadron' there.)

Tim: Help me Rhonda? Lily is quite close to the Higgs Boson near the back fence by the coal bunker.

Lily looks very pretty !

If only Smith had had asked his dad dad.

Sarah: And she doesn't REALIZE it!!!

Geoff: The Smiths are past historic and knew little of the finer points of grammar. Girlfriend in a comma.

No, much easier (and ruder). But thank you for prompting me to put on 'Summer Days (and Summer Nights!!)

I suppose that Lily is perfect and Oz is imperfect, and that you are tense?

Tom: the bad guys know us so they leave us alone. Never happened in North Kent.

Z: Lily is a gift and lives in the present.

Great photo of the Lilypooch.

Mind you she looks ready to snap if she hears one more bad pun

Macy: I think you may be referring to yourself!

I think we've been had

Scarlet: You missed your opportunity in the haystack. Now it's Macy's turn. Move on.

Nota: Two hads are better than one.

Had I had had any sense, I shouldn't write this!
