Winterton-on-Sea

The trouble with weather forecasts, and more particularly smart-phone weather apps, is that they give the user a wholly false sense of accuracy and "controlability" over the future movements of the elements. They used to be very general predictions but now each day is laid out, hour by hour, showing pictures of sun, rain and amber weather warnings to lead one into thinking it's all going to happen to a plan.

Yesterday was a case in point. My iPhone Met Office App predicted rain every hour and when we set off for a drive to the coast and a sudden almighty downpour occurred I began to wish I hadn't been so brashly dismissive of this pessimistic view of the day.

However we arrived at Winterton-on-Sea to be greeted by this view. It reminded me of an old story my Father used to tell of a chap throwing his barometer out the window saying to it "There! go and see for yourself!"

This was Holly's first ever trip to the seaside and she appeared to be quite impressed.

Winterton, with it's flat beaches backed by 10 foot concrete flood defences is one of the few places we can let Lily off her lead with any degree of confidence, so it was nice to see the pair of them bonding in a beach chasing game.

There is a saying that Tibetan Terriers are one third dog, one third cat and one third teenager. Holly is 50% Tibetan but we were surprised when Lily chased her into some seawater to see her emerge as 90% cat.

Lily smiled sweetly in case we thought this was anything to do with her.

It's the sandy nose that gives her away.
They really are enchanting.

hahaha - as they say, if you want to know the weather, look out the window! The doggies are having a ball on that beach.

When we moved to Cornwall, in 1981, the first piece of advice we received from an elderly neighbour was, "Don't ever stay in for the weather, boy." Of course, he was right. Great to see the girls enjoying themselves at the beach...in sunshine!

They are lovely!

Don't they looked pleased to be beside the seaside!

Yes, I've also stopped believing the weather forecasts. I now just look out the window, dress with layers and take an umbrella.

Those dogs juat can't take a bad photo.
If you see what I mean.

Nota: Stroke of proper luck!

Timorous: They might just be forthcoming!

Z: Unique but with more than a dash of her great-Uncle's feistiness.

Di: Even the prose was breathless!

Mig: Fortunately they didn't both drink seawater and throw up in the car like their predecessors.

Gab: Yes, Windows make a comeback!

Martin: Serendipity Weather is the very best sort!

Roses: This is almost just round the corner for you.

Pat: And a bit like the lovely Filey beach where the last Basset sprinting occured
