I received an email from one of my favourite retail emporiums today. Maplins. Not the holiday camp but the gadgetry store where they know their resistors from their capactators.
They were suggesting I dash off to one of their outlets to grab a suitable Valentine bargain for my good lady.
Now I've never been known for my incisive knowledge of the female psyche when it comes to presents, witness the occasion early on in our (almost short lived) relationship when I assumed an "AB-Buster"
would make a nice stocking filler at Christmas.
But even I'm not certain a USB cable would go down well on Valentines Day.

I am inspired! I have about thirteen redundant USB cables gathering mould in my garage - I shall giftwrap them and send them (anonymously of course) to the woman of my dreams. Irresistable!
Tim - just keep the Vanilla Fudge albums in the cupboard until you are home and dry, that's my tip.
Maplins missed a trick here. They should be marketing it as part of their 'Scarts and Flowers' range.
Martin: They could have at least paid a top celebrity with some sort of product relevance to endorse their campaign. I would have suggested Vince Cable.
Ah I think it's sweet. What I don't think is that vince cable is a top celebrity! I'm also surprised that you haven't reference your plug for Maplins...
You have a "good lady" as well as everything else? Phew....
To be fair, it's one up from the usual dead flowers and yellowing card from the garage that is normally the gift of choice....
Oh they're opening a new branch in Newbury. I must go and see if there's anything I'd like him to get for me.
I really hope the Shah doesn't come across your blog before Valentine's day. He loves Maplins although I have always found it to be populated by small, malodorous men with beards and he (thankfully) doesn't come into any of those categories.
Brilliant idea!!
Heads off to make something intricate out of USB cable and sticky back plastic
So how did it go?
