Why Algebra?

Here's a little poser for you:

No sorry, I meant this poser:

Coldplay  - Ed Sheeran =  Annie Lennox

(It's easier than Mike's Mystery Objects)

Come on somebody? The clue is in the question, as my old probation officer used to say to me.

Boring band - ginger twat = half a tourist?

Naughty step for you Sir B.

OK, my star nephew Robbie has come up with the correct solution on Facebook.

"X&Y" is a Coldplay album, "X" is the ED Sheeran Album.

So X + Y - X = Y, or phonetically "Why" which happens to be the silky 1992 single from Miss Annie Lennox.

It's obvious now isn't it? And I did say the answer was in the title.

I'm off to think up some much tougher questions .....

Robbie couldn't answer it on this blog page because he honestly couldn't tick the "I am not a Robert" thingy

If I was a robot I still wouldn't have got that answer.

Put it down to the fact, I stopped listening to Coldplay in the early naughties, I only listen to one Ed Sheeran track willingly and while Annie Lennox is a goddess in my eyes, I don't have that track of hers either (though obviously I do know it).

I'll go drink some gin now.

Yes Roses - it is a tad eclectic as a musical mix I will grant you that. I discovered this morning that Bruce Hornsby went on tour for years with the Grateful Dead. I'm still recovering.

I'm still trying to understand the question.
Owha tanas siam!

Never having deliberately listened to either Coldplay or Ed Sheeran, never mind knowing the names of their albums, you'll forgive me for not getting this one. Plus I'm hopeless at maths.

But at least I now know why Jerry Garcia guested on the last track of Bruce Hornsby's great 'Harbour Lights' album - thank you for that insight.

So the question is about 'pop' gramophone records ?

Hardly algebra Rog, that was addition and subtraction of capital letters. But you have struck upon an area of information outside my experience and you have bested me completely.
