Driech

It's been driech today.

You know the Eskimos are supposed to have 47 words for snow?

Well the Scots have 48 words for dull, grey, misty, drizzling rainy days.

I suppose the Greeks have 49 words for "lend us a fiver" but spookily only one word for weather. Scorchio.

That's enough National Stereotyping I think.

Damn I was going to do a blog on the word dreich too Rog.

Only Scotland needs a word for endless grey damp that seeps into your very bone marrow ....

That's a rather splendid photo, Rog. I love the way the mist doesn't quite reach to the ground to the right of the trees and the hint of sunlight at the left. And Lily makes it, of course.

My hair is already starting to frizz looking at this picture.

Looks like sun burning off the mist on the left. Is there a scottish word for that?
It's a lovely photo.

Sav: we still have an actual drought here. Unlike Scotland.

Macy: I think we still want to read an authentic driech post from the horse's mouth.

Z: lily doesn't normally help with the photography!

Roses: I wish mine would.

Mig: I don't think there is a Scottish word for sun :-(

It has a German sound - Scottish words often do. the photo is pure November.

Pat: Yes, my old Granny used to talk of Chuchters which is very German.
